GRIT COACHES
GRIT coaches come from different backgrounds, selected for their expertise, love of the game, and a strong drive to coach players to be the best versions of themselves. Coaches vary in age and experience so camps and clinics offer the best of all worlds. Coach Amy has a group of talented adult coaches who help run the camps alongside Petaluma High School alumni coaches, current high school players, and some GRIT alumni too. The young campers love it when the high school and college players jump in and play, but most importantly serve as role models for what their future can be and how hard work pays off. Coach Amy places importance on making sure her coaching staff is supported in all ways and appreciates the effort and love they give to the game.
GRIT Camp Director
Coach Amy Schwappach is entering her 7th season as Head Varsity Coach at Petaluma High School, where she has built a strong program centered on a positive, competitive team culture. Under her leadership, the Trojans captured league pennants in 2024 and 2025, reflecting the program’s growth, discipline, and commitment to excellence.
In addition to high school coaching, Amy has four years of club coaching experience with Absolute Volleyball Club in Marin, working with athletes in the 15s, 16s, and 17s age groups. She is passionate about developing players during their most important growth years and helping them prepare for the next level of competition.
Amy believes that great volleyball starts with strong fundamentals, teamwork, and hard work, combined with a fast-paced, energetic, and fun training environment. Her coaching philosophy focuses on developing the whole athlete, pushing players to improve through high touches, technical skill development, and a genuine passion for the game.
Her goal is simple: help every athlete leave the gym more confident, more skilled, and more in love with volleyball than when they walked in.
